Indoor basketball and myopia study

Researchers from the Lions Eye Institute are looking to recruit parents of children and adolescents (aged under 18) who play basketball to find out how much time they spend outdoors and how this relates to wearing glasses for short-sightedness (myopia).

What does the study involve?

We will ask you to complete a short survey taking approximately 5-10 minutes of your time.

Why?

Myopia is increasing in children in Australia and worldwide. Studies have shown spending low amounts of time outdoors is a major factor in the development of myopia in children and adolescents.

We aim to evaluate the amount of time typically spent outdoors and rates of myopia among children who play basketball.

The results of this study will help us develop recommendations for time outdoors for children playing different sports.

How do I get involved?
